HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RESHINGLE A ROOF

There might be times when some problems with your roof can be easily solved. Missing shingles, unmounted flashings, and sometimes loose screws can be easily repaired. However, problems like roof leaks, holes made from hailstorms, dark stains, organic growths, and warped shingles can leave permanent damage to your roof. Whenever permanent damages are incurred on your roof, the best course of action is to replace your roof. Some people might not like the idea of having to tear off and replace their roofs, but it is still a necessity nonetheless. Replacing a roof or re-shingling your roof can be a big investment. Not only are you looking for the right materials for the job, but you’re investing in thousands of dollars worth of labor, roofing materials, and equipment. Moreover, you’ll also need to do your own research on your roofing contractor to ensure that they have a good track record.

But before anything else, we have to first look at how long the reshingling process will take. We have to also look into certain factors that will influence the reshingling process.Check out our blog.

The Reshingling Process

Right off the bat, every type of shingle that you see in the market will have its own unique characteristics. Each type of shingle has been designed for different types of pitches, and it will also have its own installation process. Since this is the case, every type of shingle will have its own timespan of installation.

On average, the following shingles will be finished in this certain number of days:

  • Wooden Shingles – 3 – 4 days
  • Slate Tiles and Shingles – 6 – 7 days
  • Asphalt Shingles – 1 – 2 days
  • Concrete Tiles and Shingles – 8 – 9 days

Homeowners have to also be aware that this is based on data. Asphalt shingles might take 1 – 2 days to install on an average roof of 1600 square feet, but the length of time will vary depending on several conditions.

Factors To Consider When Reshingling

Most roofing materials like asphalt shingles will usually take 2 – 3 days to install on your average residential roof of 1600 square feet. But whether we are replacing our roof, we still have to be mindful of the following variables that will affect how long it will take to install our roof.

Weather

We have to accept the fact that there will be times of the year when the weather won’t cooperate with us. If you’re going to be installing shingles on your roof during colder seasons, there are going to be additional steps. Moreover, it’s highly not advised to reshingle your roof when it’s raining or snowing. If you’re on a tight schedule, it’s best to hire a professional who knows what they are doing.

Roofing Material

Certain shingles will take a longer time to install on roofs. Your choice of underlayments and the style of how your shingles are laid can heavily influence how long reshingling will take place. It is also recommended that you keep in touch with your local contractor to know if the roofing materials that you have chosen are readily available.

House Size

The area of your roof and your house will also determine the length of time. On average, your typical residential home in the United States will have an area of 1600 – 1700 square feet. In most cases, your average roof will be reshingled in a span of 2 – 3 days. A roof with double the area that needs to be reshingled will usually take more than a week.

Warranties

It’s quite common that most people will get another fresh new set of roofing materials. It is recommended that you have warranties that last a long time. Most warranties that last 5 years aren’t going to cut it for high-quality shingles. If you’re using architectural shingles or even slate tile roofs, it’s best to look for a warranty that’s proportional to the lifespan of your shingles. For example, architectural shingles will usually last 35 – 40 years, a warranty should cover at least 25 – 30 years of the material’s life expectancy.

You should look for a warranty that will last a long time. Additionally, a warranty that covers a good amount of decades means that the manufacturer is confident with their product. It’s best that you do some research on what warranties do cover.

To make the long story short, it takes an average project of at least 2 – 3 days. The length of time that’s needed to complete your average roofing project will be determined by the key factors. This will be determined by how your roofing materials are being laid and if the weather is cooperating. It’s always a logical choice to commission the services of a professional roofing contractor.
